Job Description
Co-op students are integral to supporting our Firm during tax season and beyond. This position provides hands-on experience in tax preparation, document management, and professional client communication. The 4-month term focuses on tax season tasks, while the 8-month term extends into corporate tax, investment accounting, and assurance work. Our co-op program is also an opportunity to identify and develop new talent, contributing to the long-term growth of our Firm. This role offers valuable exposure to industry-standard accounting software and real-world tax compliance processes.
Roles and Responsibilities
4 Month Co-op Term
Prepare T1 personal tax returns.
Prepare T4 and T5 slips.
Prepare T3 trust returns.
Organize, scan, and manage both physical and digital tax documents.
Utilize accounting and tax preparation software to complete filings.
Review client tax documents, flagging discrepancies and missing information
8-Month Co-op Term (Includes all 4-month responsibilities plus the following)
Gain experience in corporate tax filing and compliance
Work with investment accounting processes and reporting
Assist with assurance engagements, including document preparation and audit support.
Participate in special tax projects, such as uncashed cheques and other ad hoc assignments.
Assist the administrative assistants with the busy season office clean up.
Qualifications and Skills
Enrolled in an accounting program at the University of Ottawa or Carleton University.
Strong desire to learn and develop accounting skills.
Good organizational and time-management abilities.
Basic understanding of accounting principles.
